There is a relatively high incidence of cataracts in Sri Lanka, especially among the rural poor. Over the years, thousands of rural people have benefited from eye camps organized and implemented by the Rotary Club of Kandy, with support from The Rotary Foundation, overseas Rotary Clubs and other donors. As of 20017/18 the Club has concentrated on providing cataract surgery for poor villagers who would not be able to afford the cost of the operations and who risk losing their sight. The surgery is carried out at the Club’s expense or with donor funding
